Trade Days began in 1989 as a means to develop
a community center and park for area residents. Trade
Days celebrates our northeast Tennessee culture. Arts, crafts,
and exhibits represent the best of Appalachian life, both past
and present. Over twenty years later, it is growing and
expanding to make the festival more interesting for residents
and visitors alike. Profits from the festival go to
improvements and expansions of the Trade Community Center and Park.
Today, the festival lasts for three days. As one
committee member said, "Trade Days doesn't just happen for the
three days in June." It takes a lot of time and effort to
make Trade Days happen. Committee members work year
round planning a variety of events to raise money for the
Community Center and Park. Other times the Trade Days
Committee donates time and money for local service projects.
Over the past years proceeds go for improvements in the
park and community center. Proceeds from Trade Days 2002
financed new playground items and new bathrooms. During
the spring of 2003 we were also able to have a new bridge
built so entertainers could enter and park close to the stage!
From the 2004 proceeds, we were able to pave part of the
walkway in the park and place a thick layer of gravel on the
rest. Trade Days is held the last full weekend of June each
year.
2009 marks the second year Trade Days will be hosting the
Appalachia Service Project team. ASP does home repair for low
income families in TN, VA, WV and KY. The ASP staff will call
the Trade School home for eight weeks this summer. Each week
they will be joined by approximately 70 to 75 teenage
volunteers and chaperones from all over the country. Not only
do they do the home repairs, they also spend a lot of money in
Johnson County, helping our economy. For more information
about ASP please visit them on the web at www.ASPhome.org.
Trade Days is also involved in:
*Relay for Life
*Fundraisers for those in our community who are in need
*Christmas dinner for seniors in Trade
