If
you are looking for a weekend full of festivities, make
plans now to attend the 21st Annual Trade Days
Festival, June 26th-28th, 2009,
located at 228 Modock Rd, Trade, TN, just off Highway 421 South near the Tennessee/North
Carolina State Line. Much is offered in
the way of entertainment with new exhibits and shows for
2009 and of course the Indian pow-wow.
Donnie
Freeman and his Inter-Tribal Pow-Wow will be returning
this year. Don’t miss this educational
as well as entertaining and spectacular event with Native
American Tribes in their native dress. This
year the pow-wow will feature competition drumming and
dancing. Kids of all ages will enjoy watching dogs doing amazing tricks and
stunts in the Kountry
K-9 Show. T.J. the Clown
will be strolling throughout the grounds daily, and be sure
to watch as your children or grandchildren climb the National
Guard Rock Wall. The Tennessee
Wildlife Exhibit will also be at the 2009 Trade Days
Festival. We have two amazing new shows this year. The first
features the magic of world renown magician Jimmy Dixon who
has been listed in the Guinness Book of World Records and
for
the first time in East Tennessee, the Puppetone Rockers will
be here. They are a high energy, fast paced show with a
positive message for young and old alike.
In
the school/community center you will see quilting, quilts on
display, weaving, crocheting, and more. Inside
the kitchen you will find Trade Days children making
biscuits, cheese being made the old fashion way as well as
butter being churned.
Demonstrations
on the grounds include the making of apple butter and lye
soap, tobacco twisting, a blacksmith exhibit and the
operation of hit and miss engines and antique saws.
The Historic Trade Mill is open and operating, so
be sure to stop by and spend some time in the mill and visit
the gift shop while you are there. They feature crafts made
by people in the Trade community, Amish made jams, jelly and
canned goods, hot sauce and salsa made here in the community
and some old fashioned wooden toys. Throughout the grounds you will find local and Native
American crafts and foods. Please support
these vendors.
There
will be live entertainment on the outdoor stage daily.
The Trade Days Parade will take place on Saturday
morning and on Sunday morning there will be a Worship Service.
